Further work on the lower masts.

Annoyingly, after oiling, I found that I had made some serious grinding marks. I have to see if I can somehow get them out.

Doing the leather imitation in 1:72 was harsh for my eyes :-P

I have been sent some very nice new 3D printed "samples" from Master Korabel that I would like to show.

And I finally managed to finish my Ropewalk and do some initial testing.

The first results, I am not dissatisfied.

Used Gutermann Mara color is 2899 for the light (I will also try to "mix" that with 265) and 696 for the dark brown.

Now it's time for fine tuning (hoofd still jerks me too much) and I also need Mara 220 for thinner ropes.

cheers

Yesterday I made my first anchor cable :-)

First I made 3 ropes with 3 x 2 Mara 70 right handen (diameter is 0.62 mm) and with these the left handed anchor cable..

The first attempt went wrong, the sledge was too light for it. Then I put a kilo on it and it was much better. But I could imagine adding another 500g or even another kilo of weight. I will build a weight sledge to attach to it :-)

Here are a few pictures, the cable has a diameter of 1.4 mm:

Wonderful 3D modelling, and thanks for all the info about the ropes. I might try more with Gutermann thread now!

That are my results with Gutermann Mara so far.

Edit: I need to remeasure the diameters though. Will update the list soon. -> Done.

The fine-tuning of the Reeperbahn proves to be a bit tough, as expected, even though routine sets in. Somehow the brown yarn behaves differently from the beige. At the moment I'm trying to build a very smooth running hoofd carriage so that it runs "earlier" and above all quietly. This is also necessary for the thin ropes I have to do. It is not 1:48 but 1:72.

Furthermore, I have to find out how to get all the diameters I need. Some of the "recipes" of others absolutely do not fit :-(

There are also uncertainties when measuring the ropes diameter, as my "measurements" differ greatly from the ropes of others. I will take another look today and measure everything again.

Master Korabel was kind enough to laser the handrails in a beautiful pear (the black wood of the kit is very rough here), so that I could now also start to tackle this part of the construction.

I am torn as to whether I should leave it natural or, which would certainly be more historically correct, give the handrail a black coat of paint (what I think I need to do :-)).
