Yes, the whole situation with the chasers and the steering rig is kinda unsatisfying, I for myself don't think that the Syren would have steered only with the tiller, maybe a reduced rig but not completly rigless. Anyway I'm with Mark, we don't know but we can show what might have been and we can even "mix" it a bit just to show the possibilities

Anyway back to the shipyard I finished the chain/pendant/tackle-System.





And also build the new tiller







As Dafi stated it might be that we have a missing tension mechanism for the steering rig. I for myself did not find anything for a ship of this class. I found NMM drawings of the mechanism for the Euralyus and the Hind. So right now I will solve this issue with a lashed tackle on one of the blocks.


I try to get myself in the mood to go on with the carronade rigging ... hard ... haha



So, at it is a little overdue .... macro time ...

Hooks .. ok ... hooks ...ähm today I checked if it is possible to mouse them ... yepp ...





Honestly I will NOT mouse all of the hooks of the gun riggings ... no ... nope ..no no no!

As it might be helpful my way of doing the solder stuff:

What you need are copper/brass strips, some brass eyebolts and approbriate brass microtube.



I am soldering with a lot of solder because the final shape will be worked out with a file.



Most of the work is filing...



... and checking



More filing to get the wanted shape...



The holes are sometimes drilled sometimes pinned with a needle as this is more exact to position.



Some parts need blackening.

Prepare the rope with an angled cut and glue it with a small drop of CA.





Seizing the pseudosplice ...







Now I need to prepare ca. 140 blocks ... eijeijei .... procrastination I see you coming again ...


As you might remember my stern is a bit different. It's full black and until today a bit empty. But with the help of my girlfriend and suggested by a painting the stern changed a bit

Mass-Serving rope ...

Relearnig doing blocks ...



Changing the long gun rigging to - imo more appropriate - single/double blocks instead single/single blocks ...








I finished the new rigging for the two longguns.



And started to sucessfully fight procrastination and do the carronade rigging. Four are done now ... Hint: Don't run them out toooo much as you will get in trouble with the rigging being to long ...



But most important, Captain's on deck ... nope not me, my girl did this nice figure painting job! (more to come!)









7 Carronades done ... 9 to go ... puhh .. and 2 more seaman by my girl ...

A liitle photostory how I make my blocks. Maybe there is a better way but I didn't found it ..

Bend the served rope over the block.



Placing the rope, for the blocks with rope.



We go on without this rope and place another drop of CA.



Bend the served rope again (might be shortend before).



Put the rope in shape if needed.



Using a Edding to reblacken the served rope when needed.



Doing some more boring work ...



Finished.



10 done, 6 to go ....

The block/hook combination is noct 100% accurate, there should be a clear eye where the hook is placed in, as the distances are too short I had to find a compromise and did the block/hook combination as short as possible. Damn my english is bad today .. haha ... guess you get what I mean

Today I did some work on the hammock cranes. I was and am not satisfied with the etched parts, the feel to flat. I tried to do them by myself but it was impossible to get 0.6mm square brass bar. So I tried a photo etching service. The first one was a totally fail ... money lost ... the second one was better not satisfying really but better ... it is not easy to etch with a thickness of 0.5mm too much "under etching" occures.

Anyway.

From left to right: Original, brass etched, filed and blackend.

Hammock Cranes done. Pictures



I liked to have on e more detail.




















Today I did the first netting. I thought about a while, how to do it, if it's "outside" or "inside", one piece or more. It is one piece and placed inside the cranes though

I measured the sizes up and preapared some cardboard where I placed the netting on.



I the glued 0.33mm rope around the netting.



Cutting sharp at the rope, that's the result and I'm happy with the outcome



First fitting check ..



Attaching the netting with 0.1mm rope.





The backside need to be attached to and the 3 nettings to go
