These mast have a damn lot of possible details to do, so ...

Starting with the protection.






1:72 is really tiny ... eijeijei ... some little progress.

The "nails" here are just holes pinned with a needle and the filled with a pencil. After that some oil But I'm gettin some 0.2mm drills soon

Small Update. At the moment there are a lot small but time consuming things to do.

Redid the mast foot and the "ring"-clamp (no idea how it is called .. )



Redid the bowsprit with pear. The "old" one was to thin especially the square part so that I couldn't align the bowsprit correctly and with no gap to the ... damn word missing ... haha. I also did the two net holder ... word missing again ...

Next small but timeconsuming change ...

Today I learned that that is NOT the lever of a pump ... it is a pump windlass. So I decided to do the lever a bit more detailed and will ad some missing mechanical stuff (even missing on the original Maria in Munich). Guess there will be at least a second iteration ...

Next on my list is redoing the tiller and more metalwork for the pumpwindlass ...


In my opinion the form of the tiller is very characteristic for an Ewer so I were always a bit unlucky with the flat kit's one.

That has to be changed

A small update. I'm still with all the yards and else ... some progress here.



A trick to "hold" small parts, just use double sided adhesive tape.





The bands will change here to brass ones, shrinkable tubing is too thick imo.









I then did a lot of experiences how to get a square to a round dowel ... works quite fine for dowels around 6 - 8mm but not the smaller ones.



So still searching whats the best way is for me

I did some more detailing for the pump windlass. As it was to small for brass I did it with plastic sheet.









Back to the yards then ...


Today I did the last parts for the pump windlass, the pawlboxes. These are connected via the link rods with the rocker.

I really like it to max out what is possible even in a small scale like 1:72. As some of you might remember I always have a photo etched set by Verlinden in my workshop, called "Nuts and Washers" so there where some nuts missing







The connection between the pawlboxes and the link rod needed some more love too









The conncetion at the rocker might get the same love too soon

Only a small detail but I liked to show it. Maria, as a lot of (fishing) boats - had/has an extendible centerboard.








I do all my shots with an iPhone (6 actually) and an Olloclip or a cheaper one macro lense.

As preparation for the/a stand I turned some brass.

First ropework. I foy myself find this always the most difficult part of a build, to have it look natural. I will mix all different kind of spare rope I have

A little bit more mast detailing. As I am not happy with the humbrol gold color I'll try gold leaf soon for the mast tops Haha, that will be fun



Now a short break from doing the mast. A very knowledgeable colleque in a German forum told me, that the small boat ist absolutely wrong for a fishing ewer, it's NOT an Ewerboat. Ok now again there is the situation to decide building the "Munich Museum"-Maria (with the small boat on board) or the "Might be like this 100 years ago"-Maria.

As Daniel already made the kit so that you can build the sail or motorized Maria he also give us to little boat kits. Ok, the one for the motorized Maria looks more like an Ewerboat (and it was already tempting to build ..) so I did it It might be too big but I'll see what my colleques has to say about

Okidoki, before showing more pictures I have to so some criticizing and a Modifier-Wish (hope you don't mind Daniel ). See the Minikit first.



Two things are bad here. First the manual, NO indicator/picture/whatever HOW to place the first plank exactly at the keel. So I decided to start at top, suspecting the other problem coming around. I like to carefully accurately remove the laser char from the wood that leads to the problem that all planks might get o.1mm smaller then "wanted" with 10 planks this is ONE mm. A problem. [This problem is even "bigger" when the laser was to hot and too much burned wood has to be removed!]Also sometimes - maybe because it is not the 100% perfect position, a plank is 0.3mm too short or 0.5mm, sounds like nothing but no, it's a lot in this scale.

So my ideas for this problem are the following:
1) Make planks 1-2mm longer at the end
2) Explain exactly how the first plank has to be placed (!!)
3) Make the top last plank higher (then the CAD program "says" ) to compensate the potentialloss of laser char removing.

In short: Some buffer is needed! Hope I could explain my self well enough here

No idea what ist called in english "Fock-Leitwagen" ... for the forsstaysail




The kit provides etched parts for the mastrings, I wanted to try to make wood ones, kinda challenge in 1:72 .. haha ...

I used a slicer (right word?), to get chippings, to make the rings ...













Overall I'm quite satisfied will give them some finetuning tomorrow.

Did some more finetuning to the rings also the 2 bolts holding a ring together.









I also did the mastfoot.

Sanded the mastrings smaller, might try to get them even more smaller ... finished most of the mast related parts and glued them together.

A small mastring tutorial. It's just a matter of patience

The shavings have a thickness of about 0.2mm +/- 0.05mm.



Fixing the shave with a drop of CA.



Turning the shave with a lot ov CA so that we get 2-3 layers.



Cut the rest.



Raw ring.



Sanded ring.

Danish Oil.

Usually more then needed mastrings where rigged so that when a used one breaks it can easily replaced by one of the spares.
