I'm still waiting for 360 Skala in color 36 to finish everything, but most of it is done :-)

The running rigging is done completely with Skala.












For the standing rigging, I combine Mara and Skala. I need Skala for the very thin ropes (0.2 - 0.4 mm), but I find the light glow a little disturbing. I deliberately don't use black (colour code 000) but anthracite. I like it better and it doesn't "pop" so much. I don't like dark brown (colour code 696).

I get the same measurements with a different type of ropewalk (hanging, with 80gm weight) so this thread is consistent.

Doing a 3 x 2, 360 Skala, color 702, Sledge move to 15cm

Drilling the 2 single threads to one strand with Motor 1.




After a time the sledge will start to move.






Motor 1 runs with 41% in this phase.





When the sledge reach position 15 cm (depending on my receipt, see above), barely seeable in the picture, I start Motor 2 do the laying of the rope, Motor 1 will be turned down to 30%.

Now the hoofd ist starting and the rope is laying.







It is important that the drilling by Motor 1 with reduced speed is still ongoing to get a uniform laid rope over the whole length.






See Motor 1 with 31% speed.




When the hoofd reach Motor 1, Motor 1 is stopped that also stops the sledge from moving. It is now important to still have Motor 2 running and doing the laying. I do this until the sledge starts to move again. That shows me the "forces" of drilling and laying are in balance.

Removing the rope from the ropewalk will so not results in rest drill within the rope and it will be beautiful close laid.

Before cutting the rope it needs to be secured by CA glue or whatever. I do not do this mystic cooking as this is not necessary and will fix the rope in a dedicated position.

Very nice ropewalk. How do you employ the motor at the other end? Do you use it as a swivel? Also, what power motors are they?

I added Text to the images above and hope that explains the process well.

The motor is the following one. You need a powerful motor and a lot of weight on the sledge when doing bigger diameters like 2,0 mm.

All the electronics I bought via ebay. Most in China direct.

Thanks, Dirk. That's very helpful. I can see that the second motor does act in the same way as a swivel, and that with a fixed position for the end panel you need a motor for that function. For the hanging setup I use, there is no fixed end position and I just let the rope rotate as it is pulled upwards while intertwining the threads. Yours has the advantage of highly controlled tension.

I must and will correct myself a little and apologise. I got a bit mad yesterday with doing the breaching rope an unraveling. So today I did some testing with baking rope and to my surprise it works very well. I just put it in my oven for 5 minutes at 170 degree Celsius and the unraveling almost stopped. The rope still feel the same though. Will do more testing later.

Today I did some more testing with baking. Another good thing is the rope gets less stiff even it were laid very stiff. I tried it with my anchor and other cables (@egkb) and after I baked them for 5 minutes it was a joy to see how soft and flexible they has become. Yes I changed my mind after these experiences and highly recommend baking the rope ... haha.
