Four-oared Yawl scale 1:24

I needed a small project which was feasible while our little daughter is still ... very small.

I decided on a Four-oared Yawl scale 1:24 I got as a present agood while ago :-)

Lovely work as usual. I really like this way of building small boats with the frames snapping off. Hard to replicate without laser cutting at small scales. Will you be naming it after your daughter?

Yeah I like this way of building too ... and you get very nice and elegant results even on smaller scales like 1:72. I do not understand why western kit manufacturers even guys like Chris Watton are not adopting this but still providing rough and oversized boat kits ... even pre spilled lasered planks should be a must nowadays.

Some progress :-)

I replaced all lasered "nails" with blackened brass rods.

The wood is oiled and then I used "Ballenmattierung" to get it shiny a bit. With this treatment I really like the color of the kit wood.

I built the case. The base is wild oak oiled. Later the Yawl will stand on two brass rods.

Btw, the very nice supports turned from pear are part of the kit :-)

The brass parts were blackened with the brass stain from Dräger. Use a sanding pad to make the brass bright, then 10 seconds in the stain and you're done :-)

Again, a little improvisation was necessary because of the precision of the laser work, which does not always work in reality. The seats could have been 2 mm wider :-D







The mast securing looks good and works by the way, even if I think the belaying pins could have been a bit bigger.







Here, all the etched nail holes have been drilled out and replaced with miniature rivets. I like this, if slightly "exaggerated", impression.

2mm is quite a difference for a laser cut piece, but you seem to have made good. Fine model. Well-finished wood is always attractive.
