Premium Ebony Blocks & Deadeyes from Dry Dock Models & Parts
Dry Dock Models & Parts offers a really impressive range of premium blocks and deadeyes for ship modelling, made from high-quality ebony. No resin, no plastic just pure premium wood!
What I particularly like about the selection is that it goes far beyond the usual standard blocks. There are numerous different shapes, sizes and special block types available, making it possible to choose parts that are much better suited to the character and period of the vessel being modelled.
This is especially useful when building historically detailed models, where the appearance and proportions of the blocks can make a noticeable difference.
Some people seem to feel the need to criticize the shape of these blocks, but I think that is missing the point. There was never one single, universally correct shape for a ship's block. While some types became somewhat more angular in later periods, that is only part of the story.
Historical evidence clearly shows that blocks came in a surprisingly wide variety of shapes and proportions, depending on their type, period, purpose and manufacturer. There are numerous contemporary examples that demonstrate this diversity.
For that reason, simply labelling a particular block shape as "wrong" or "right" is, in my opinion, not really appropriate.
The quality and variety make them a very interesting option for anyone looking to take the rigging of a model to the next level.
